Italy’s government borrowing costs have fallen to lows not seen for more than two years, highlighting more positive investor sentiment towards the eurozone’s “periphery” economies.

Italian 10-year bonds were trading at a yield of less than 4.48 per cent at one point on Thursday, the lowest since late 2010. Although reversed later in the day, the drop extended a two-week rally encouraged by a eurozone finance ministers’ deal earlier this week on preventing a default in Greece.
